Coders
Coders are machines that are used to print bar codes, text, graphics, and other information onto cases, bags, films, containers, and other materials. Special Projects International offers used coders from well-known manufacturers like Diagraph, Linx, Markem, Marsh, Squid Ink, VideoJet, and Willett. The different types of coders we offer are listed and described below.
Ink-Jet Coder
Ink-jet coders are machines that spray tiny droplets of ink onto the product to form the image without touching the objects surface. Ink-jet coders can be used on porous surfaces like uncoated corrugate boxes, paper and wood, or they can be used on non-porous surfaces like glass, metals, and plastics. However, different formulas of ink are required for printing on different surfaces.
Laser Coder
Laser coders are machines that use laser printing or laser marking equipment to form an image or writing on a product. These machines use a focused beam of energy to mark a surface through ablation, engraving, or chemical modification (color change). Laser coders are more expensive than ink-jet coders when comparing machine cost, but the laser coder is more economically efficient long term because they don’t require different inks to print on different surfaces. Additionally, machine upkeep and maintenance is simpler for a laser coder. Laser coders can mark products that are stationary or while moving on a production line. Laser coders are a popular choice for high-quality, permanent coding of text, time and date, bar codes, serial numbers, etc.
