Used Capping Machine equipment

Capping Machines
Special Projects International offers a variety of used industrial capping machines from well-known manufacturers like Alcoa, AROL, Atlanta Grotnes, Bertalasco, CLI, Consolidated, Crandall Filling Machinery, Del Packaging, Elf, Holmatic, Kalish, Kiss Packaging Systems, Pneumatic Scale, Origa, Portola Packaging, Resina, Ron Unger, Surekap, The West Co., U.S. Bottlers, White Cap, and Zalkin. Capping machines are applied to processes to speed up production times and limit the amount of non-automated work within a line. The several different types of used capping machines we offer are categorized and described below.

Cap Sorter Feeder
There are several different types of cap sorting systems that use different design mechanisms but achieve the same goal – to take a pile of caps and make them exit only in the desired orientation.

Inline Capper
Inline capping machines, also known as quill cappers, have side gripping belts that grip the outer edges of the bottles that travel along the conveyor. Along the same conveyor line, there is a series of rotating disks called “quills” at cap height on either side of the conveyor. As the bottles with loose caps make their way downline, the quills spin in opposite directions to tighten the screw cap on the container. These types of cappers can work continuously and can often do up to 350 containers per minute. Inline capping machines are ideal for small to medium businesses but not for processes that are running at high speeds.

Overcapper
Overcappers are machines designed to place a cap over an already-sealed container using downward force. These machines are used in the food packaging industries. Some examples of products that use overcapper machines are Pringles chips or Folger’s coffee.

Retorquer Cap Tightener
Retorquer machines are often used in smaller operations that don’t quite have all the resources to fully automate their capping system, but need a process more efficient than hand-held cap tighteners. With a retorquer cap tightener, the containers have their caps screwed tight as they run through the main conveyor line.

ROPP Capper
Roll Over Pilfer Proof (ROPP) cappers are designed to secure tamper evident metal caps to containers. Some examples of products that use ROPP capping technology are designer beverages or champagne bottles.

Screw Capper
The screw capper, also known as a chuck capper or rotary capper, is a common type of automatic capping machine. They have a series of rotating heads called quills or chucks. These heads grab a cap and screw it onto the bottle the same way a human hand would. Screw cappers usually use a conveyor system to allow auto-feeding of lids and bottles creating a continuous capping process.

Vial Capper
Vial capping machines are used to handle small propylene caps, microcentrifuge tubes, and vials. These machines are usually equipped with an automated system to feed vials and caps. Vial cappers are commonly used in the pharmaceutical industry to seal small glass vials.
