Used Distillation Column and Still equipment

Distillation Column and Still
Columns and stills refer to the industrial machinery designed for distillation processes. Distillation is the action of purifying a liquid by a process of heating and cooling (boiling and condensing). Special Projects International offers several types of used distillation equipment from well-known manufacturers like APV, Brighton Copper Works, Finish Thompson Inc., Hicks & Son, Karr, Liberty Coppersmith, Matt Cochran, Schott Duran/Glas-Col, Solvent Recovery System, and Vendome. The different types of used distillation equipment we offer are listed and described below.

Pot Still
Pot stills are distillation apparatuses used to distill liquors such as whiskey or cognac. These stills operate on a batch distillation basis as opposed to column stills which operate continuously. Pot stills are usually constructed of copper, but they can also be constructed of stainless steel or glass.

Bubble Cap Tray Distillation Column
Bubble cap tray distillation columns are distillation apparatuses that consist of a column with a bubble cap tray fitted on the top. The bubble cap tray is a flat perforated plate with risers/chimneys that are fitted over each hole as well as a cap that covers the riser. The cap is mounted so that there is a space between the riser and the cap to allow the passage of vapor. The vapor rises through the chimney where the cap directs it downwards and out through the slots in the cap. Bubble cap trays are commonly used for handling low-liquid loads in the chemical, petrochemical, and industrial processing industries. In some cases, the bubble cap tray distillation column can also be used for reaction applications.

Sieve Tray Distillation Column
Sieve tray distillation columns consist of a distillation column with a sieve tray fitted on top. A sieve tray is a flat perforated plate with no moving parts. In a sieve tray distillation column, the vapor rises from the perforations in the sieve tray cross-current to the liquid flow. The vapor traveling across the tray keeps the liquid from flowing down through the perforations. The liquid moves across the top tray then travels to the bottom tray below through the down-comer.

Solvent Recovery Still
Solvent recovery stills are distillation apparatuses designed to separate volatile and nonvolatile solutions in a solvent. This machine works by boiling the solution, and condensing the two liquids back into separate tanks – like a de-greaser. These systems are commonly used to recover mineral spirits, paint thinner, acetone, isopropyl alcohol, methyl ethyl ketone, xylene, hexane, various alcohols, chlorinated solvents, aromatic solvents, and more.

Packed Distillation Column
Packed distillation columns are machines that consist of a cylindrical shell containing a support plate for the packing material and a liquid distributing device designed to provide efficient irrigation of the packing. The columns are filled with a randomly oriented packing material. The liquid flows down in the column over a packing surface and the vapor moves counter-currently up the column. Packed distillation columns are used extensively for absorption, stripping, and distillation operations.
