Used Machine Tool equipment
Machine Tools
Machine tools include a wide variety of machines that are used in various industries (mostly machine shops) to cut, grind, thread, finish, or measure a product. Special Projects International offers a wide variety of used machine tools from well-known manufacturers like Brown & Sharpe, DoAll, Emerson, Everett Industries, Hurco, JET, Jones & Lamson, Kalamazoo Industries, K.O. Lee Co., Lodge & Shipley, Mitsubishi, Ridgid, Roto-Finish, Teledyne, Toledo Beaver Tools, Wilton, and Webb. The different types of machine tools we offer are listed and described below.
Abrasive Cut Off Saw
Abrasive cut off saws, also called “cut off saws” or “chop saws,” are machine tools that are designed to cut hard materials. The cutting action is performed by an abrasive disk similar to a thin grinding wheel. The disk is typically made out of aluminum oxide, so it can cut through stainless steel and other metals, tile, and concrete.
Band Saw
Band saws are machine tools that are equipped with a long, sharp blade consisting of a continuous band of toothed metal stretched between two or more wheels to cut material. These machine tools are commonly found in woodworking, and metal working, but they are capable of cutting a wide range of materials.
Metal Lathe
Metal lathes, also called “metalworking lathes,” are machine tools that are designed specifically for metal workpieces. These machines are used to cut, sand, knurl, drill, and turn workpieces by exposing them to a stationary cutting tool. The workpiece is clamped in place and rotated at high speeds while pressing against a stationary cutting tool. Metal lathes support a wide range of metals along with some alloys such as aluminum, cooper, and iron.
Milling Machine
Milling machines are machine tools that are designed to rough, cut, or even drill hard materials such as metals. These machines cut a workpiece as it is fed against a rotating multi-point cutter. Milling machines can be designed for horizontal cutting, vertical cutting, or universal meaning both set-ups are possible. These machines are commonly used for planing, grooving, and drilling materials like metal, plastic, and wood. Additionally, milling machines are used for gear manufacturing.
Optical Comparator
Optical comparators are machine tools that are designed to measure and inspect the dimensions of small manufactured parts. In optical comparators, lights, lenses, and mirrors are used to create a magnified 2-D image. The magnified image is projected on a screen where the operator can then assess if the part’s dimensions and geometry are within specifications. In addition to being able to provide basic length and width dimensions, optical comparators can also detect scratches, indentations, and many other surface defects. These machines are commonly found in quality labs in manufacturing plants.
Pipe Threader
Pipe threaders are machine tools that are designed to cut grooves and/or thread into the end of a metal pipe. These are essential machine tools that have the ability and precision to cut threads on the ends of pipes to both the female and the male attachment. Pipe threaders are commonly found in the mining and plumbing industries but can be found in heavy industrial applications.
Spot Welder
Spot welders are machine tools designed to perform spot welding. Spot welding is a process that uses two shaped copper alloy electrodes to concentrate a welding current into a small “spot” and to simultaneously clamp the sheets together. The workpieces are held together under pressure exerted by electrodes. These machines are commonly used to weld sheet metal and/or wire mesh. Spot welding is also used to spot weld straps to nickel-cadmium, nickel-metal hydride, or lithium-ion battery cells to make batteries. Spot welders are commonly found in many sheet metal industrial sectors such as automotive or kitchen appliance manufacturing.
Surface Grinder
Surface grinders are machine tools that are designed to produce a smooth finish on flat surfaces. These machines consist of a spinning abrasive wheel and a reciprocating or rotary table. Surface grinding is a widely-used abrasive machining process in which the spinning grinding wheel cuts chips of metallic or nonmetallic substances from a workpiece to make it flat or smooth.
Vibratory Finishing Mill
Vibratory finishing mills are machines that are designed to clean, radius, burnish, deburr, polish, and improve the surface finish of a manufactured part. These machines consist of a vibrating bowl filled with media sized for the specific process requirements. The usual media used in vibratory finishing mills is steel, ceramic, and plastic. As the bowl vibrates, the media continuously comes into contact with workpieces which grinds away the burrs, sharp edges, metallic fines, and rough surfaces.
Wire EDM
Wire electrical discharge machining (EDM) machines are cutting machines that use a metallic wire – electrode – to cut a programmed contour in a workpiece. Wire EDM machining is an electro thermal production process where a thin single strand metal wire, along with de-ionised water (used to conduct electricity) allows the wire to cut through metal by the use of heat from electrical sparks, while preventing rust. Wire EDM machines are commonly used to manufacture parts and components for the automotive, aerospace, and electronics industries. This process is best suited for applications requiring low levels of residual stress.
Sheet Metal Brake
Sheet metal brakes, also called just brakes, bending machines, bending brakes, sheet metal folders, or folders, are machines that are designed to bend sheet metal. These machines consist of a flat surface onto which the material is placed, and a clamping bar which will come down and hold the material firmly during the bend. These machines can make most bends and angles up to a practical limit of about 120 degrees. Sheet metal brakes are commonly used in the automotive and kitchen appliance manufacturing industries.
Tool Sharpener
Tool and cutter sharpeners/grinders are machine tools that are designed to sharpen milling cutters and tool bits along with a host of other cutting tools. These machines are extremely versatile and are able to perform a variety of grinding operations such as surface grinding, cylindrical grinding, or complex shapes.
